PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Chua Soi Lek’s presidential victory also created waves on microblogging site Twitter, even earning him a hashtag.
The hashtag “#soilek” was one of the top 10 trending topics on Twitter on Sunday moments after he was declared the winner in the MCA presidential race.
The topic peaked at No 6 before dropping off the trending topics, which meant that it was the sixth most popular topic worldwide on the social media network.
Dr Chua beat incumbent Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat and former president Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting in the MCA elections on Sunday.He garnered 901 votes while Ka Ting came in second with 833 votes. Tee Keat garnered 578 votes.
