It's rather disgusting if bold moves by Prime Minister Najib Razak is slammed down even before it's implementation and to make matters worse we have the DPM who seems to be ever ready to pour 'cold water' on implementations by The PM (The Prime Minister does get the support of the Masses).
DPM's concerns always seems to be focused on the half read and unexposed citizens who smack of ignorance and narrowmindedness. How long is the government going to stoop down to this minority who believe that they can hijack the good name of Islam with their unprecedented and utterly narrowminded views on Islam?
This is certainly disturbing and affecting clear thinking, well educated and knowledgeable Muslims and Non Muslims alike. I call this situation rather 'worrying and deplorable' and i must say that in such instances like these, the government seems to be very weak and vulnerable! The government has time and time again failed to be bold in placing some common sense in the minds of the utterly narrowminded!
We are living in an ever changing world, society is fast evolving but we have nonsensical people here who cling on illogical and draconian beliefs and practises. The government is more often than not seen as stooping to worrying levels of stupidity which is only pulling down Malaysia and holding her backwards.
I wish to also know who is the Prime Minister? Is the DPM the shadow PM? Many of us are feeling rather confused...
RAWANG: The newly set up inter-faith committee is not a decision-making body that decides on religious issues and conflicts.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the committee did not have the power to decide on religious disputes and would not affect the status and position of Islam.
“It is not a council or commission as proposed by certain quarters in the past,” he told reporters after giving out launching grants for private pre-schools here yesterday.
“It has an administrative role and comes under the Prime Minister’s Department. It’s just a small committee. That is why Datuk Illani Isahak was chosen to head the committee. She has experience. Thus, we gave her a chance.”
He said the committee was to promote religious understanding and harmony among the various religions.
Muhyiddin said this when asked to comment on concerns raised by the Malay right wing group, Perkasa. Its president Datuk Ibrahim Ali, had claimed that the committee might influence the government on religious matters, and said that Illani was not a good choice to head the body.
He also questioned why the committee was under the jurisdiction of Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, who is in charge of unity, instead of Datuk Jamil Khir Baharom, who is the minister in charge of Islamic Affairs under the Prime Minister’s Department.
“I don’t think we should be worried and we will explain in detail about it,” said Muhyiddin, adding that the committee comprised representatives from the National Fatwa Council, the Department of Islamic Development of Malaysia (Jakim) and the Malaysian Consul-tative Council on Buddhism, Chris-tianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism.
He said the outcome of discussions by the committee would be used as a guide to improve relations among the multi-racial and multi-religious society.
PETALING JAYA: A national multi-faith council has taken the Deputy Prime Minister to task for supposedly calling its members on a Cabinet-approved inter-faith committee “small fry”.
The Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism also wants Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, who is responsible for unity and national integration, to clarify the position of the committee members.
Council president Rev Dr Thomas Philips said in a statement its executive committee emergency meeting yesterday concluded that Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s comments downplaying the panel members’ role had registered “displeasure and disappointment” among its members.
