The notion of 'One Malaysia' is the brainchild of Malaysia's new Prime Minister Dato'Seri Najib Tun Razak. Many Malaysians are very pleased to hear this and yes it is bringing about joy in the hearts of non malays and educated malays. I must say it's a right direction forward even though it's overdue. The time for change has come, very slow but it has come and now our Prime Minister has to walk the talk.
I used to hear my late mother and fellow Malaysians of my parent's generation about Malaysia after independence and in the 60s, despite the May 13th incident, the level of 'Malaysianism' was always there, people were lived based on race and religion, people were one and more often than not, races could never be diferrentiated, people were mostly dressed in the fashion of the 60s irrespective of race and religion. This was mentioned some time ago by our First Lady, Dato'Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor, she mentioned to this effect; "that when i was an undergraduate in University of Malaya, just take a look at all my pictures with my mates, you could never differentiate between races!'.
But over the years, Malaysia has gone backwards in terms of patriotism and national unity, every race seems to be fighting for their so-called racial rights, culture and religion. This is not right, This is not the pure essence of 'Malaysianism'. We have to put our race behind us, we have to be Malaysians first, we have to stand firm with conviction that we are Malaysians. We do not hold citizenships of Indonesia, India, China & Portugal, We are Malaysians as our national anthem goes; 'TANAH TUMPAHNYA DARAHKU'.
I stand behind Dato'Seri Najib Tun Razak in his mission towards bringing back 'Malaysianism' of the 60s. We have to come together as one and build our nation as one! Syabas Dato'Seri! You are pushing the right buttons and i pray it's not as the saying goes; 'new broom sweeps well!'. What you have started, you must accomplish at whatever given cost, you must stand up for what you believe in and in this case,Malaysians will stand behind you!
