Nori Abdullah, daughter of former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, yesterday accepted the Seri Setia Mahkota Malaysia (SSM) award which carries the title “Tun” on behalf of her late mother Datin Paduka Endon Mahmood from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin, at the Istana Negara, here.
Tun Endon's title is a well deserved one as she contributed volumes to Malaysia even while battling cancer. She revived the batik industry in this country and she placed the performing arts on the right track while giving it a nutritional jab in the arm!
She has done so much for both sectors but it didn't just stop there, she contributed to other sectors as well while running between her Chemotherapy and carrying her duties as First Lady, she took over from Tun Dr.Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali and she did her very best to live up to the high standards placed by Tun Dr.Siti Hasmah.
Datin Paduka Endon binti Mahmood (December 24, 1940 - October 20, 2005) was the wife of Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi. She was informally known as "Kak Endon". Endon was born to Datuk Mahmood Ambak, a Malay, and Datin Mariam Abdullah, a Japanese. Endon had ten other siblings, including her twin sister Noraini as well as other sisters Nonni, Rahmah and Aizah. She was born in Klang, Selangor on 24 December 1940. Wikipedia
May the Soul of Tun Endon Mahmood Rest In Peace, Amen.
"Almost exactly a year ago, on this very stage, at the Gala opening of The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre, I said that our lasting monument to our late Patron, Yang Amat Berbahagia Datin Paduka Seri Endon Mahmood, will not be fashioned out of bricks and mortar. Instead, it will come from fulfilling her vision of creative excellence among Malaysians"-Tan Sri Dato' Dr.Francis Yeoh (Sept 2007)
